So disappointed

Not that I have a whole lot of respect for Disney but I have to say that I am extremely disappointed with them! I sat down to watch The Princess and the Frog with my kiddos tonight and I was so sad. It's an awful, awful movie. The black magic and voodoo is horrific...I honestly can't believe what I just watched. Gggrrrr...I was so excited that Disney finally made a movie with a black princess. My little girl was so excited that there was a Disney princess that looked like her. Honestly, was any of that necessary??? It could have been done so well.....

Okay, I'm done venting...for now anyways. Oh, I'm so irritated that they would produce a movie like that. I recognize that MANY of the Disney movies have an element of magic...some worse than others but this is by far the worst I've ever seen...it's so dark...so of the ENEMY!!!! Okay, I'm really done now......

I know what you mean. I recently watched it for the first time and agree, it's worse then most, although I know the Little Mermaid is pretty bad too, we don't watch that one.
But I did get a little teary watching at first knowing that my daughter will be able to see a princess that looks like her.

That is so unfortunate. It is so difficult to find nice movies for kids. You would think Disney would be better than this!

I have to disagree with you. Loved the movie and so does my little nieces. We don't get all caught up in the magic part. It's just a movie.

@Nicole, The problem here is compromise. Is a Ouija board just a game? Is the Satanic Bible just a book? Hasbro recently released a pink version of their Ouija board, glow in the dark with a recommended age range of 8 to adult. These are stepping stones to occultic practices.

Deuteronomy 18:9-15 "When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. (10) "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, (11) or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. (12) "For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you. (13) "You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. (14) "For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do so. (15) "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.

I have to say I was pretty disappointed too. I and many folks from the Mocha Moms( www.mochamoms.org ) petitioned Disney for YEARS to get a movie with a person of color. For me mainly just the fact that ALL of our friends daughters have Disney princess blankets, dolls, jackets, bikes, coloring books etc that look EXACTLY like they do. I wanted one that wasn't the typical fair maiden.

It was SO disappointing to me for MANY reasons. One, being that they could have taken any of the beautiful stories of African Princesses but they chose THE SOUTH!!! The SOUTH hasn't always been kind to those of color so I don't really get why they chose that particular time period and region. I would have liked if they made her hair curly or kinky. After all, that is what most blacks have.. curly kinky hair. I am so TIRED of the prevailing reasoning that hair must be straight to be beautiful. I get so much flack for wearing my hair natural or braided. Heck even if I go to hair stylists they lecture me on straightening my hair!

The voodoo was terrible, just terrible. I have mixed feelings about the interracial couple. I like that they showed a mixed race couple as being acceptable, but I'm thinking if this is our ONLY shot, our ONLY Disney movie, it would have been nice to have a majestic proud black prince. It would have been beautiful if they would have featured a black prince as handsome, rescuing, knight in shining armour, worthy of respect gentleman etc. All the qualities you get from the typical Caucasian prince. Really is this to much to ask? I don't like that they named her Tiana which isn't really a nice princess name. The original name of Madeline is prettier, a more classic name and would have actually been a name used during that time period.. but I digress... Well, I am at least happy to be able to get a few items with a sister with melanin. wth color, though we won't purchase the movie. Be Blessed. Alida w5

I too was so disappointed on so much black magic in the movie. Yes there was some of the good side, but for all of 2 minutes it seemed.

I am all for interracial relationships, but I also thought it was odd they didn't use a black Prince. What a great role model for little ones to have!

Disney just missed it all around in this movie.
